Color….eggs….powder colors….bunny rabbits….it all describes March!  This month and this MBISCAN is a short one, for everyone needs that long awaited break.

The highlight of this month is probably the SLC…Student Led Conference which everyone is preparing for in earnest. It’s the time for students to connect with their parents. Every student has basically turned in all assignments for the month and everyone is breathing out a sigh of relief.

This month though, isn’t just about school….we all are looking forward to Holi and Easter both of which mark this month. Let us hope that by the time we come back to school we aren’t still covered in color!!!

So we are all looking forward to the holidays….waking up late…sleeping and eating….having the AC on while in the heat…and so on. We hope you enjoy your holidays!!!!

Father:  How do you like going to school?
Son:  The going bit is fine, as is the coming home bit too, but I'm not too keen on the time in-between!

We wish you all a great holiday!

On the 6th of March MYP 2 visited a nomadic group in Hinjewadi. It was a good experience to witness how nomadic people live. It was astounding to see how simply they lived.  The children also interviewed some of the people to get an insight into their daily life.  As a follow-up to this trip the MYP 2s have voluntarily donated various articles of daily use to this community.  Way to go Year2s…

In our continuing series of showcasing some of the very good Learner Profile essays…..

“Should I do it? What if I fail? What if I am wrong? These are some of the things that should never come up as a barrier for us students. MBIS has taught us to be risk takers when it comes to learning, and is a part of the MBIS Learner Profile. A risk taker is a term that refers to students who approach unfamiliar situations with courage and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. Risk takers are those who are brave in defending their feelings.

Dealing with unfamiliar situations is something we students do everyday. These situations could refer to an extract written in old English, or solving a problem in Math that involves multiple calculations, which we haven’t done before. In such situations, we students take the risk to face such problems and deal with them, keeping aside the fear of being pointed out, and doing what we feel will be right and looking at it in the right perspective. This doesn’t mean that we try solving a sum we don’t understand and don’t approach the teacher! I have seen a lot of risk takers in MBIS. If it is to do a project differently, or try out new things, we at MBIS aren’t scared of trying something new and taking that risk. This risk is not the one when we don’t do our homework and take the risk to walk into class saying we forgot! Neither is it the one where we try doing wrong things, without knowing the consequences or knowing that they are bad! Risk taken in a positive manner, will definitely teach you something if not always give you the totally right result.

Standing up to talk about what you feel is an important part of being a risk taker. It is a risk to stand up and talk in front of people who don’t agree with you, but the challenge is to make them believe you are right or justified. If you don’t believe in what you do, you can never be a risk taker. Being a risk taker is about believing what you feel right, and having confidence in your approaches. We at MBIS also support risk takers, and give them confidence. I have seen a lot of us, telling each other – “Yes!! it’s right! I believe it will work too”. This makes the person mentally strong and makes it easier for him/her to do what he/she wants to do. If such enthusiasm lives within all of us, we can reach beyond the impossible!  Hats off to the MBIS spirit!”

“When I first looked at the Learner Profile, many things went through my mind at once. The Learner Profile has many parts to it. These are communication, knowledge, risk taking, being principled, caring, being open-minded, well balanced, reflecting, inquiring and thinking. If all these abilities were in a person, the person would be the greatest in the world. However, no one person can have all these abilities and therefore continuously tries to achieve them.

In my perspective a Learner Profile is a way to remind everyone that these are the abilities that it takes to become the “ultimate” human being. I think the Learner Profile is there to show us that it is not impossible to become great and that these are the areas one needs to focus on when trying to improve oneself.

In my opinion the main ability is to be able to communicate with others. I think that this ability is the most important because it allows people to express their ideas and information confidently and creatively. I think it also allows people to work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. In other words, I think that if a person is a good communicator he or she can work better with others.”

“Inquirer mean something like research or curiosity till now, when I had homework I got curiosity. It was about science when I looked at dams, I got curious of how it works; now I know. I think if we do science, usually get curiosity till now, I only had curiosity in 2 things. One is game and other is science. The thing called science gives a lot of curiosity like how we do or how to do. Science is one of my favourite subjects.”

A an Autobiography of a Rag

I am a rag from South of India. I have come to Pune. Now I am living in a paper factory, I don’t know what they are going to do to me tomorrow. Let’s wait and see.

A lady came and sorted us out. Then oooo! They are shredding us into tiny pieces. I am feeling so sad because it hurts. O.K. now they are putting me into the cold water with some alum. It’s like winter sooo cold. Hey Riya!! How are you? Want to swim with me? Ho! My god they have put me in a tray and are going to flatten and stretch me. Owwww!!! That’s hurting. Where is Riya? I was having so much fun with her swimming. They hung me up to dry but not in the sun. After a day they took me down. I am upset I know they are going to hurt me again. A lady brought a brush; she looked at me carefully and brushed me. That was not so bad. Now they cut me into the sizes people want and made me into a bag.

I am happy now. You can buy me and use me. I am eco friendly. Take care of me and I will take care of your environment.
