The Curriculum model

The diagram represents the curriculum model of the MYP. The 5 areas of interaction connect the development of the individual (at the centre) with the educational experience in all the subject groups. These links are specific for each subject area and it highlights the interdisciplinary potential of the MYP.

Each subject group occupies a point around the edge of the octagonal model, reflecting the importance of the traditional disciplines taught to this age group and the skills, knowledge and understandings specific to each.  The IBO requires schools to provide structured learning in each subject group in each year of the MYP, to achieve a broad and balanced education throughout the programme.  All the subject groups around the edge of the octagon are of equal importance, although each one will not necessarily require the same amount of teaching time: however, they must all be addressed seriously and be clearly identifiable in the curriculum.

The Students of year 5 also undertake a Personal project as part of their curriculum.

The student is at the centre of the MYP curriculum model.  At this age, students are making the transition from early puberty to mid-adolescence: this is a crucial period of personal, social and intellectual development, of uncertainty and questioning.  The MYP is designed to guide students in their search for a sense of place in the natural and social environment.
